The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Southern Utah (RVUCOM-SU) is seeking a Vice Chair/Southern Utah Campus Chair and invites applications at all professional ranks for a full-time, non-tenure track position.

Final applicant will be required to pass both a background and drug test.
  1. Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to the faculty and staff of the RVUCOM-SU Campus for the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
  2. Assist the RVUCOM Department Chair of Biomedical Sciences in preparing and/or performing formal evaluations for all faculty and staff in the department.
  3. Assist the RVUCOM Department Chair of Biomedical Sciences in preparing financial and budgetary plans and help oversee expenditures of the department in coordination with the SU Campus Dean.
  4. Provide mentorship to all faculty in the department.
  5. Assist in planning and delivering ongoing faculty development activities.
  6. Participate as a member of the RVUCOM-SU leadership team in meetings.
  7. Help convene and/or preside over department meetings in conjunction with the Department Chair.
  8. Participate in prospective student interviews and be involved in recruiting and admissions processes.
  9. Anticipate human resource needs for the department and when the need arises, coordinate the recruiting and interview process for new faculty and staff and make recommendation for hire to the RVUCOM Department Chair and SU Campus Dean.
  10. Direct the education and instruction of medical students and other health care professional students while providing mentorship and motivation for learning, research and scholarly activity in classroom environments, active learning groups, laboratory experience, and research opportunities.
  11. Be readily available for student advising, tutoring, remediation and academic counseling.
  12. Participate in service to the University and COM by serving on committees as appointed by the Dean’s Office or the President’s Office. 
  13. Provide leadership, mentorship, supervision, guidance to students, participating in community outreach events and with professional organizations or student groups as requested by the SU Campus Dean.
  14. Participate in curriculum development, assessment and modification as a part of the college’s ongoing quality improvement and assessment program.
  15. Participate in the training, assessment and evaluation of students, provide feedback and remedial assistance to ensure all core competencies and entrustable professional activities are met.
  16. Participate in the assessment or evaluation of and provide feedback to other members of the faculty as a portion of the college’s ongoing quality improvement and assessment program as needed.
  17. Maintain a personal and professional development plan and portfolio, including documentation of teaching, professional development activities and plans, service provided to college and communities, scholarly activity and research to assure personal growth and continued competency with specialty field.
  18. Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance.
  19. Demonstrate and role model an ongoing ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and support staff.
  20. Demonstrate adaptability and the willingness to assist the university and college in fulfilling its mission and vision though teaching, academic administrative duties (course/system coordinator), service, and/or perform special duties as assigned.
  21. Advance the prestige of the University and College through personal career advancement.
  22. Participate in scholarly activity which includes publications and local and national presentations representing the University and the COM.
  23. Other duties as assigned by the Office of the Dean or the Office of the President.

  1. Terminal degree (PhD, DO, or MD) required.
  2. Four (4) years of academic experience as a faculty member at a College of Medicine.
  3. Demonstrated leadership and productivity in the area of medical education.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and productivity in the area of research and scholarly activity.
  5. Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
  1. Demonstrated leadership, productivity, and administrative experience in a College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  2. Experience developing and administering a graduate biomedical curriculum. 
  3. Experience expanding and advancing biomedical science programs.
