The campus of Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Southern Utah (RVUCOM-SU) is located in Ivins, UT, 20 minutes from St. George, UT. PRIMARY PURPOSE:         Works closely with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to support students of the Southern Utah campus. This position will provide guidance and support to all students to help them reach their academic and career goals.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
Academic Support Duties
  1. Develop and deliver personalized programs of academic self-improvement and group workshops on relevant topics.
  2. Conduct confidential consultation regarding learning styles, time management and academic performance.
  3. Direct all aspects of the academic tutoring program on campus including recruiting, selection, interviewing, hiring, training scheduling, supervision, “Meet the Tutors” sessions, weekly review PowerPoints, and budget management.
  4. Maintain accurate files and perform academic tracking, intervention, and follow-up with all students.
  5. Problem solve with students around their academic program and other factors affecting their lives as students.
  6. Serve as the Co-chair of the Students “At-Risk” Committee (STARC) and communicate with Phase Directors regarding progress of “at-risk” students.
  7. Recommend appropriate actions based on students’ academic abilities, personal obligations, and career goals.
  8. Collaborate with key faculty and staff to better identify students in need and monitor their progress.
  9. Manage and provide educational support services for students needing ADA accommodations.
  10. Recognize different types of crises and refer students to campus/community resources as deemed appropriate. 
Career Advisement Duties
  1. Build the advising program for the unit from the ground up while considering the needs specific to the students it serves.
  2. Advise students holistically by clarifying personal, academic, and career goals.
  3. Provide one-on-one advising to students to ensure academic success including career planning, academic advising, student activities, and preparing academic papers and presentations for local and national levels.
  4. Provide career planning and development workshops, activities and networking events utilizing resources such as the Careers in Medicine (CIM) website.
  5. Provide support and guidance for CV and Personal Statement development.
  6. Manage and monitor student academic progress and degree completion.
  7. Organize and facilitate year-round strategic student advising communication campaigns. 
Student Affairs/General Duties
  1. Perform ongoing assistance with Student Affairs events and activities.
  2. Work with the Director of Student Life to assess the programming needs of students.
  3. Participate in weekly collaboration meetings with counterparts on Colorado Campus.
  4. Have a clear understanding of all university and college academic policies; and work on a daily basis with other entities across campus.
  5. Help students navigate institutional policies and procedures.
  6. Participate in the prospective student interviewing process.
  7. Other duties as assigned by Assistant Dean of Students or Campus Dean.  
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
  1. Assist administration, faculty, and staff in special projects as needed.
  2. Participate in community and professional outreach activities on behalf of the college and university.
  3. Develop a positive working relationship with students, providing support in various academic and non-academic arenas. 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 
  1. Ability to communicate clearly effectively, both orally and in writing.
  2. Public speaking.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
  4. Ability to problem-solve.
  5. Excellent organizational skills.
  6. If needed, ability to work outside of normal business hours.
  7. Knowledge of University and College Policy and Procedures.   
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
  1. Earned degree in appropriate field, such as Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Social Work, Educational Psychology, Counseling, etc., from an accredited institution.
  2. At least three years of full-time experience at an accredited university, health profession college, or medical school.
  3. Demonstrated increased leadership responsibilities in a university setting 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Six years of full-time experience at an accredited university, health profession college, or medical school.
  2. Experience with student advising and/or academic support services.
  3. Graduate Degree.
