Director of Basic Science Curriculum in the Physician Assistant Studies program.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  The Director of Basic Science Curriculum for the Physician Assistant Program will oversee the integration of the basic science content for the department of Physician Assistant Studies. 
 
This is a full-time position with salary and competitive benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Administrative:
  1. Provide oversight in the development and implementation of the basic science curriculum, emphasizing integration of basic and clinical sciences
  2. Develop mechanisms that ensure the PA program basic science curriculum meets ARC-PA standards
  3. Implement learning strategies that ensure the basic science curriculum, including the Molecular and Cellular Concepts and Anatomy courses, is consistent with the mission and goals of the Program
  4. Develop and implement a continuous process of self-assessment that is consistent with the PA program self-study plan and that ensures quality of the basic science curriculum
  5. Serve as curricular liaison between the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) departments of Biomedical Sciences, the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and the PA program
  6. Collaborate with PA faculty Directors of Curriculum and Assessment to ensure integration of curricula
  7. Ensure basic science faculty members are appropriately oriented to the program missions and goals, specific teaching responsibilities, program instructional resources, and the learning objectives and assessments for which they are responsible
 
Teaching:
  1. Develop curricular content for the MPAS based on competency-based medical model, adhering to accreditation standards (ARC-PA), and aligned with program mission and goals
  2. Deliver curricular content within the PA program, including, but not limited to:
    1. Serving as course director for the Molecular and Cellular Concepts course
    2. Serving as lecturer, and/or small group facilitator
  3. Serve as student advisor to PA students, including serving as Clerkship Director in one or more clinically required courses
 
Service:
  1. Serve on PA program committees including, but not limited to:
    1. Admissions
    2. Curriculum
    3. Student Assessment and Promotions
    4. Program Evaluation
  2. Serve on institutional committees as appointed by the PA Program Director
  3. Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic, lay, and professional communities
 
Scholarship:
  1. As a newly accredited program, with an innovative curriculum, there will be opportunities to participate in scholarly work in collaboration with PA team members. 
 
Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the mission of the program and the university
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of and experience in medical education as it relates to basic science curriculum
  2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  3. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience in delivering curricular content to medical students (PA, DO, MD)
  2. Relevant Master’s degree
  3. Experience teaching master’s level students
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Clinical expertise in one or more curricular content areas of the MPAS degree (for example: MD, DO, PA, PT, PharmD)
  2. Terminal degree in relevant field
