The campus of Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Southern Utah (RVUCOM-SU) is located in Ivins, UT, 20 minutes from St. George, UT.  RVUCOM is committed to the education of osteopathic physicians who are dedicated to excellence in the practice of medicine, demonstrate integrity and professionalism in their lives, while providing ethical, compassionate, holistic and culturally competent osteopathic medical care to their patients. 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:       To work closely with the RVUCOM Department Chairs of Primary Care Medicine, Specialty Medicine, and Honors Tracks and Special Programs to oversee all departmental matters at the Southern Utah campus.   
  
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to the faculty and staff of the RVUCOM-SU Campus for the Departments of Primary Care, Specialty Medicine, and Honors Tracks and Special Programs.
  2. Assist the RVUCOM Department Chair of Primary Care Medicine, Department Chair of Specialty Medicine, and Department Chair of Honors Tracks and Special Programs in preparing and/or performing formal evaluations for all faculty and staff in the department.
  3. Assist the RVUCOM Department Chair of Primary Care Medicine, Department Chair of Specialty Medicine, and Department Chair of Honors Tracks and Special Programs in preparing financial and budgetary plans and help oversee expenditures of the department(s) in coordination with the SU Campus Dean.
  4. Provide mentorship to all faculty in the department(s).
  5. Assist in planning and delivering ongoing faculty development activities.
  6. Participate as a member of the RVUCOM-SU leadership team in meetings.
  7. Help convene and/or preside over department meetings in conjunction with the Department Chair(s).
  8. Participate in prospective student interviews and be involved in recruiting and admissions processes.
  9. Anticipate human resource needs for the department and when the need arises, coordinate the recruiting and interview process for new faculty and staff and make recommendation for hire to the RVUCOM Department Chair(s) and Campus Dean.
  10. Direct the education and instruction of medical students and other health care professional students while providing mentorship and motivation for learning, research and scholarly activity in classroom environments, clinical settings, active learning groups, laboratory experience and research opportunities.
  11. Be readily available for student advising, tutoring, remediation and academic counseling.
  12. Provide professional and clinical services in the RVUCOM-SU Clinic or other clinical settings consistent with training and degree as assigned by the SU Campus Dean in conjunction with the applicable RVUCOM Department Chairs.
  13. Participate in service to the University and COM by serving on committees as appointed by the Dean’s Office or the President’s Office. 
  14. Provide leadership, mentorship, supervision, guidance to students, participating in community outreach events and with professional organizations or student groups as requested by the SU Campus Dean.
  15. Participate in curriculum development, assessment and modification as a part of the college’s ongoing quality improvement and assessment program.
  16. Participate in the training, assessment and evaluation of clinical students and residents, provide feedback and remedial assistance to ensure all core competencies and entrustable professional activities are met.
  17. Provide feedback and participate in the assessment or evaluation of faculty and staff as part of the University’s ongoing quality improvement processes.
  18. Maintain a personal and professional development plan and portfolio, including documentation of teaching, professional development activities and plans, service provided to college and communities, scholarly activity and research to assure personal growth and continued competency with specialty field.
  19. Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance.
  20. Demonstrate and role model an ongoing ability to work cooperatively with students, colleagues, supervisors and support staff.
  21. Demonstrate adaptability and the willingness to assist the university and college in fulfilling its mission and vision though teaching, academic administrative duties (course/system coordinator), providing patient care, community service and/or perform special duties as assigned.
  22. Advance the prestige of the University and College through personal career advancement.
  23. Participate in scholarly activity which includes publications and local and national presentations representing the University and the COM.
  24. Other duties as assigned by the Dean’s Office or the President’s Office.
  
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as required.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  1. Demonstrate leadership skills, delegation skills, and time management skills
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of medical education
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of varied curriculum templates
  4. Demonstrate ability to mentor and motivate students and peers
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Terminal degree (DO or MD) with current Board Certification in appropriate area of specialization.
  2. Five (5) years academic experience as a full time faculty member at a College of Osteopathic Medicine or as a full time faculty member in a Graduate Medical Education program.
  3. Demonstrated leadership and productivity in the areas of clinical or professional service, scholarly activity, medical research or education.
  4. Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
  5. Eligible or hold an unrestricted Utah medical license.
  6. Eligible for coverage by University’s malpractice insurer if applicable.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in clinical, professional or educational settings.
